FAQ

What is the difference between Lucky Locks and hair tinsel?

There are a lot of reasons silk-based sparkles (Lucky Locks) vs plastic-based (hair tinsel) are preferred:

• Longevity: With our method and our product, our sparkles can last in a client's hair for up to a year, sometimes longer. Hair tinsel typically lasts up to 6 weeks max.

• Weight: You wouldn't think such a small weight difference would cause a varying effect, but because our strands are silk, they are lighter than the plastic so they pull down on the individual hairs with less force, meaning they won't cause the hair it's attached to shed as quickly as hair tinsel does.

• Width: The silk strands are finer than the hair tinsel you will find on amazon and other places online, so the knots used are almost undetectable in the hair. Also being thinner, the strands are less rigid than tinsel and take on the characteristics of all hair types, rather than staying stick straight.

• Appearance: Our sparkles are more natural looking because of their light, flexible qualities. Also, half of our colors are shiny rather than all prismatic like hair tinsel is. Our solid colors give people more options to not look as flashy and sport a classier look.

• Heat & chemical resistance: Some synthetic product has a heat resistance up to a certain point, some melts immediately when heat is applied, but our product does not melt and can be bleached and dyed over without being affected.

• Quality: Would you rather be wearing silk or plastic in your hair? The synthetic strands are slipperier which means the color rubs off of the strands quicker, losing its color and sheen. Also, the hair tinsel tends to get "crunchy" or damaged looking quicker than the Lucky Locks.

• Environment: Why add more plastic to the world? Our strands are long-lasting when in the hair, but eventually when they shed, over the course of a few years they will biodegrade.

How are they placed in my hair?

Each strand is tied to a single hair with a tiny tool we call a sparkle hook. The knot used to tie the sparkle strand to the hair is secure and will not slip. The knot will be practically undetectable and an inch or less away from your scalp, and will grow out with your hair.

How long will the strands last?

Clients and our Sparklers have had our strands last anywhere from one day to two years! It all depends on when your hair that the sparkle is attached to sheds. Each strand is tied in a secure knot to one single hair, so when that chosen hair sheds, so does the sparkle. It is recommended that you get a few more strands tied than you hope to wear because one or two sparkles tend to fall out within the first week due to shedding. We are mindful of selecting the thickest, strongest individual hairs to tie to, but when a hair chooses to shed is a variable that is out of our control. If a sparkle falls out within the time we are together, I will of course tie a new one free of charge.

Does it hurt?

Other than a tiny tug on the individual hair as the sparkle is being tied, no reports of pain have been made, even by children!

Can I apply heat or color to my hair?

Yes. You can treat your hair the same way you would without them. Unlike many other sparkles out there that are synthetic based, our sparkles are silk based, which means our strands can withstand the highest heat from your hair tools and will remain strong through color-lifting chemicals, dye & other hair treatments.

Is there metal in the strands?

No metal in these metallic-looking strands. We've had customers concerned about going through metal detectors or getting an MRI with the sparkles...this accessory will not affect either of these things.

Can you tie the strands into short hair?
Very curly hair?
Kids hair?
Men's hair?

Yes to all. Well, almost. Hair for sparkles needs to be at least 2 inches long. It does not matter if your hair is curly or straight — the strands are strong but are also very light, so they go with the flow, however you wear your hair. Finer and brittle hair tends to shed a bit quicker than coarse thick hair, so while we can sparkle anyone, longevity is different from hair type to hair type.

Do you do events or parties?

Yes. We love to sparkle groups of people and can travel to your company office and sparkle while you work, to your house or store for a special event, to your bridal suite before your wedding, you name it. A location with good light is preferable! We are experts and could tie sparkles with our eyes closed, but tying knots to individual hairs in the dark is not ideal.

Will you travel to us? How far are you willing to go?

We are happy to travel to you. Private appointments always have a 30-strand ($90) minimum, and host paid events have a 1-hour minimum, and if your appointment or event is more than 30 miles away round trip from your Sparkler's base location, a fee of .50/mile will be applied. 4_FAQ_NotTinsel.jpg

We think tinsel is for trees! It’s a hard thing to change the language around a product that from afar looks just like tinsel, but get up close and experience for yourself the difference in quality with our silk strands. Our primary differentiator from other products on the market is, our strands are soft, flexible and feathery. Tinsel is a plastic base product that is denser, hangs straight and heavy from your hair. Our silk strands will NOT fade, or shine less and it will NOT melt while using styling tools! This is one of the reasons our product is long lasting and why styling professionals prefer our silk strands to hair tinsel!

We tell our clients that our sparkles can last anywhere from a day to a year ... in a handful of cases, 2 years! With our method, the sparkles will never ever slip out, they will only come out when the individual hair your sparkle is attached to is ready to naturally shed.

We lose anywhere from 50-150 hairs per day, so losing a few sparkles at first is natural and impossible to predict ... but don’t fret, send that sparkle away along with a wish! The rest of your sparkles should stick around with you for more time.

We use our expertise to carefully select a safe placement and strong hair to tie our feather-light sparkles, and even if a similar method to ours is used with a different product (hair tinsel) because Lucky Locks are lighter and more flexible, the strands have less weight on the individual hair, meaning they won’t prematurely pull the hair from its follicle.
